Activities That Will Keep You Happily Occupied in Glendalough

There aren't many itineraries that don't include a stop at Glendalough if you're planning a trip to Ireland. Even though the medieval monastery town is a firm favorite with tourists, it doesn't feel crowded because of its vastness and abundance of things to do.

Here, at LFLCS we are known for our reliable Dublin to Glendalough limo services. To make sure you get the most out of your Ireland trip, we've put together a list of activities to do in Glendalough.

Start your trip with a visit to the Visitor Centre:

Dublin Private Tours

The Glendalough Visitor Centre is the place to start your journey, even if you’d prefer to be outside exploring, a stop at the center will prepare you for your visit as it does an excellent job of giving an overview of the history of the region and the numerous activities to do in Glendalough.

Visit the Glendalough monastic site to travel back in time:

To escape the outside world, St. Kevin travelled to Glendalough in the sixth century, where he established the monastic community that we can still visit today. It was thought to be equally as sacred to be buried in Glendalough as it was to be buried in Rome. Even after being destroyed by English armies in 1398, the monastery continued to be a significant destination for pilgrims. The remaining monuments, such as Glendalough Round Tower and the Cathedral, date mostly from the 10th to 12th centuries and give us an insight into how this monastery would have looked like in its peak.

See Poulaines Waterfall:

Poulaines Waterfall

Near to the Upper Lake is the charming Poulaines Waterfall. You take a trek up and around the waterfall but be advised a level of fitness is required as it’s a moderate 1.7-kilometer path, which is highlighted by pink arrows. Usually, it takes 40 minutes to complete the trek. It can be busy as again this trek is a firm favorite with visitors to the area and it’s conveniently located next to the Visitor Centre.
